- "I may not always approve of everything he does, but I know he is doing what he knows is the right thing. And, if I do say so myself, he is doing a damn good job of it."
- ―Alfred on Bruce Wayne's identity as Batman.
Alfred Pennyworth is a central character on the television series Knight of Gotham. He is Bruce Wayne's personal butler, valet, and confidant, as well as one of the only people who knows Bruce's secret identity as Batman.
A former stage actor and British Intelligence operative, Alfred was hired by the Wayne family not long before Bruce was born. When Bruce was born, Alfred helped Thomas and Martha raise their son, and took quite a liking to the boy. When they were murdered, Alfred was named as Bruce's official guardian, and officially raised him from that time until he graduated from high school. During that time, Bruce and Alfred developed a special bond, as Alfred indeed became a father figure to Bruce.
When Bruce returned to Gotham City after travelling abroad for ten years, Alfred becomes his staunchest ally when he decides to become the vigilante crime fighter Batman and launch a campaign on crime.
He is portrayed by Timothy Dalton.
