Cast[]

Main[]

The main protagonist. Bruce Wayne returns to Gotham at the age of 18 to sign control in WayneCorp to the mysterious Charles Palantine. Bruce starts to suspect that his family's company might be connected to the corruption in Gotham City and attempts to explore the criminal underworld of Gotham in a journey that would result in him becoming the famous Caped Crusader. At the beginning of the series, Bruce is a Dick Grayson-like figure and is becoming a Nightwing-esque vigilante rather than the classic Batman in the Comics and slowly evolves into that version as he achieves more skills that will serve him in his future as Batman.

Initially Bruce's friend, Harvey learns corporate law and like Bruce is the son of a wealthy family in Gotham. Harvey is a good man with a Dark Side and as the series progresses he, like Bruce, understands that Gotham needs to be changed. His journey mirrors and is the opposite of Bruce, for example, Harvey decides to make a change in Gotham but unlike Bruce who understands that he will need to work outside of the system, Dent works within the system becoming its "White Knight".

  • Jessica Pare as Susan Dent (Main, Seasons 1-5)

Harvey's sister and Bruce's romantic interest. Susan combines elements from different characters from Batman's mythos such as Andrea Beaumont, Silver St. Cloud, and Julie Maddison

  • Zoe Saldana as Selina Kyle (Recurring, Season 1. Main, Seasons 2-3, Recurring in Season 4. Main in Seasons 5-6)

Another romantic interest of Bruce and is sort of an antithesis to Susan Dent. Selina is a street woman and later becomes a thief. She has ties in the Underworld and is the future Catwoman.

  • Bruce Greenwood as James Gordon (Main, Seasons 1-6)

The only clean Officer in Gotham City who investigated the Waynes' murders. Gordon is targeted by his partners in the GCPD and by the corrupt Commissioner, Jack Forbes. As the series goes on he himself would become the GCPD's Captain and later its Commissioner.

  • Lee Thompson as Lucius Fox (Recurring, Seasons 1-2. Main, Season 3. Recurring, Season 5. Main, Season 6)

This is a younger variation of the character. Lucius is a friend of Bruce and Harvey, a talented student who was a friend of Bruce during high school. Lucius slowly becomes one of the secret keepers of Bruce and would help him to develop gadgets.

  • Timothy Dalton as Alfred Pennyworth (Main, Seasons 1-6)
    • Sean Pertwee as Young Alfred (flashbacks)

Bruce's loyal butler and sort of his surrogate father.

  • Elisha Cuthbert as Vicki Vale (Recurring, Season 1. Main, Seasons 2-3 Recurring in Seasons 4-5, Main in Season 6)

Vicki Vale, an ambitious gossip reporter for “Gotcha”. While she is mainly writing tabloids at the beginning, she aspires to be a respected reporter which leads her to attempt to expose Charles Palantine and his schemes.

  • Rutger Hauer as Charles Palantine (Main, Seasons 1-4)

The show's main villain during the first seasons. A mysterious, corrupted businessman who took over WayneCorp before Bruce returned to Gotham and knew Thomas Wayne before his death. Palantine at first tries to corrupt Bruce for his own interests and attempts to take him under his wing (akin to Palpatine and Anakin Skywalker) but Bruce quickly gets more and more suspicious of him which slowly creates a rivalry between the two, battling for control of WayneCorp. Palantine is a mix of Palpatine from Star Wars and Lionel Luthor as the ruthless corrupted businessman.

  • James Remar as Carl Dent (Recurring in Season 1. Main in Seasons 2-6)

Harvey and Susan's father. Carl is a wealthy lawyer and a financial planner and abused Harvey and Susan when they were younger. At first, he is an unsympathetic figure who Harvey tries to push away, but he is trying to change and build a connection with his children. While Susan gets closer to him, Harvey continues to reject him and blames him for his struggles and the path his life took. It is then revealed that Carl owes a lot of money to Falcone and his partners, Salvatore Sol and Oswald Cobbelpot, due to a failed money laundering deal. Carl Dent is loosely based on Carl Beaumont (The Dents in this series are merged with the Beaumonts)

Recurring[]

  • Geoff Pierson as Carmine Falcone (Main, Season 1. Recurring, Seasons 2-3)

The main Kingpin of Crime in Gotham City and one of the main villains of the show, his corruption and schemes are a main part of the driving plots in the series.

The sadistic and psychopath, but brilliant and intelligent hitman of the Falcone crime family and later of the Thorne crime family. He slowly rises up through the ranks as the series goes on. Jack Valestra is basically a younger variation of Nicholson's Joker (who was also an assassin in the flashbacks and rose through the ranks) and Hamill's Joker. Jack is a recurring character during the first seasons, but in the final Seasons, he starts to show more tendencies familiar with his future self, such as using laugh toxin and obsession with Bruce Wayne. He becomes sort of a Proto-Joker in Seasons 5-6 and would later become the famous Clown Prince of Crime, The Joker, and Bruce's final enemy.

  • David Zayas as Oswald Cobbelpot (Recurring, Seasons 2-6)

One of Falcone's partners who runs a Nightclub in Gotham which he uses for illegal deals. Cobbelpot later betrays Falcone and double-crosses him alongside Rupert Thorne and would become one of the most powerful Kingpins in Gotham. As Falcone is dethroned, Cobbelpot adopts the identity of "The Penguin", a gentleman of crime.

  • Dan Lauria as Rupert Thorne (Recurring, Seasons 2-3. Main, Season 4. Recurring, Seasons 5-6)

The second most powerful crime boss in Gotham City and the rival of Carmine Falcone, who later dethrones him alongside The Penguin. Thorne is involved with the Dents family and during the series, there would be a long power struggle between him and Harvey Dent.

  • Neil Patrick Harris as Edward Nygma (One-Episode appearance in Season 2. Recurring, Seasons 5-6)

A scientist who was fired from WayneCorp by Charles Palantine and would later start a failed career as a con man. He would try to kill Palantine in Season 2 and for the first time, Bruce would have to protect his enemy. Nygma would later go on to become The Riddler.

  • Michael Keaton as Agent Bill Kane (Recurring, Season 4. Guest in Season 5)

An FBI Agent who arrives in Gotham to investigate Charles Palantine and later mentors Bruce. He is also a friend of Alfred from the Army. He trains Bruce in Martial Arts and later offers him to join the FBI.

  • Ghassan Massoud as Ra's al Ghul/Raymond Ducard (Recurring, Seasons 4-5)

A wealthy Aristocrat and secretly the Leader of the League of Assassins. Trains Bruce during the time skip between Season 4 and Season 5 and throughout Season 5.

  • Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Thomas Wayne, Bruce's father. (flashback)
  • Kim Basinger as Martha Wayne, Bruce's mother. (flashback)
  • Mark Hamill as Joe Chill (flashback)
  • Clancy Brown as Arnold Flass (Recurring, Seasons 1-6)

A corrupt GCPD Officer who has ties to the Gotham Underworld. He is Gordon's antagonist throughout the series alongside Jack Forbes and consistently tries to sabotage Gordon's attempts to expose the corruption in the GCPD. While the character of Jack Forbes fills the role of Gillian B. Loeb, the character of Flass as well combines some elements from Loeb when he becomes Commissioner at the end of Season 5.

  • Mark Sheppard as Hugo Strange (Recurring, Season 4)

The head psychiatrist in Arkham Asylum who collides with Bruce and Harvey Dent during Season 4.

  • Adam West as Hamilton Hill, the corrupted mayor of Gotham City (Guest in Seasons 1-6)
  • Burt Ward as Lew Moxon, the gangster who hired Joe Chill to kill Thomas and Martha Wayne.
  • Carrie Fisher as Leslie Thompkins, an old friend of the Waynes and Alfred's old love interest

Series Outline[]

  • Much like how BTAS tried to capture the spirit of Burton's Batman movies, Bruce Wayne tries to capture the spirit of BTAS, and a lot of characters in the series are meant to resemble their BTAS counterparts. The Dents and the Beaumonts, The Joker, and recurring characters like Chuckie Sol and Buzz Bronski.
